I missed the threads about people having trouble with Nosler brass. I loaded a couple of ladders and barrel conditioning rounds to shoot today.

I was using 147 ELDs, Nosler cases, and CCI LRP. OAL was 2.875”. It was 97 degrees today.

I used H4350 and Re16.

I generally shoot a sighter/conditioner group or two with a new powder and bullet combination. I shoot these at 100 yards.

Sometimes, the sighter group works pretty well. These are 1” squares at 100 yards.

The Re16 cases look fine.

The H4350 cases clearly show I’m way over the line with regards to powders weights. I use a load in the middle of the ladder for sighters.

I’ll try 41.8 and 42.8 of Re16 again. The better grouping combo in these cases will be used when I may not have the opportunity to grab my brass.

Looks about like what I expect to see when you put that much powder behind that heavy of a bullet. Back down to reasonable loads and your overpressure issues will magically disappear.

The brass as it comes from bulk bags is super tight going into the chambers of my Impact and my AI. With Hornady brass, these loads shoot really well.

It’s also way heavier than your Hornady brass. That extra weight translates into reduced case capacity and higher pressure.
