Anyone test drive any of these?

Seem to have a high(er) BC (0.618) than other stuff I've used that shoot pretty good.

Any data appreciated.

(Search showed me nothing)

Thanx

I shoot them out of a GA Precision 1:8.5 twist twist 27" bartlein. It's a Crusader. My load is 42.6 h4350 at 2.221 or 2.212 at the ogive? Can't remember but coal is 2.805". I use fgm210m primers. Runs at 2810 fps average. Powder is about 1.125 fps per degree. It doesn't seem to REALLY be effected until it gets really cold. It takes right at 8 mils to get to 1,000 yards. Or 27.5 moa. Will fly (theoretically to 1550 yards at 400 asl). Is a very good bullet. People have reported too me that the 140 hybrid runs faster than the vld but my dope is the same with both out to 900 yards.
I've also ran them with 42.6 r17. Picked up about 80 fps but it was very dirty and I saw no reason to shoot my barrel out faster.

I don't use them in a 6.5CM but I do use them almost exclusively now in my 260AI. They are incredibly accurate and do very well in the wind. I load mine about 15 thou of the lands. I am loading 42gr H4350, COAL 2.945, 2790 FPS. I can push them much much faster but the accuracy is just too good where they are at to bump them up.

I had something VERY confusing yesterday. Temp was 84 F , 29.35 barometric pressure, 70 % humidity. It took 7.8 mils to get to 945 yards. We moved the target back from 920 which my dope has been DEAD on at 7.1 to 7.2 mils. This is with average 90 degree temps and 29.9 barometric pressure. So my dope said 7.35 mils but it took 7.8 to get there ! I shot at 705 last week and 4.5 mils ( using the same ballistic program ) was dead on. What could be causing this???

I forgot to mention that i shot my .300 with a 208 amax and my dope was spot on. 23.1 moa. Using 76.8 h1000. My creedmor load was 42.6 h4350

I use them with R-17 42.5g in my 6.5 CM. 26" barrel at 2.826 OAL, 2850fps. shoots 3/16 groups at 100yds. 7.1 mills at 1000yds with 100yd zero. I havent tried anything else since I bought 2000 of them when I got this gun this summer and have been very pleased with them.

Bow and arrow are much better than this indian.LOL

One of the best 6.5 bullets. I run them in my 6.5cm with 42.8gr RL17 from a 26.5" barrel and suppressor @ 2932fps.

New batch of powder, big temperature change, time to clean the barrel?

I had a real case of weirdness at a match recently. It was at 2650' MSL and I usually shoot at about 900'. I got to the last targets at 1005 and I ended up shooting about .8 mil high. Dope at 705 was right on the money. There was an 800 yard shot too, but I did not see the impacts. I thought it was odd too. So I went back to a 1K range that sits about 700' MSL and my dope was right on at 8.0. I did find at the 100 yards range that I was shooting about .2 high on my 100 yard zero. The Applied Ballistics app adjusted the velocity down to 2790. So, back to the 1005 target at 2650'. I measured it on Google Maps with the measurement tool and it came out as 975. OK that's .4 + .2 the zero shifted and the temp changes about 35* from the morning to the afternoon too. What I need to do is go back there and get good dope from the place and see how well it matches up with what AB predicts.

Went to a friends range the other day and, as it turned out, everyone on the line was shooting 6.5CM. One guy was shooting the same load (42.7 RL17) only with the 140 VLD v. my 142 SMK. We checked out data and his loads were hitting the same mark as mine, 2850 at the muzzle. Out dope matched perfectly until we got to 1000 yards. He was hitting the steel at 8.1 Mil and I was having to dial in 8.5. I've personally never had good luck getting the 140VLD to shoot as well as 142SMK and I don't see switching from my load that shot the tighter groups for that amount of gain in elevation.

...My load is 42.6 h4350...

The Berger Manual reports a "max load" of 40.7 grains of H4350 for their 140 grain Hybrid. Your load is only 4.6% higher than the published maximum.

Similarly the Hornady manual reports a "max load" of 40.9 grains of H4350 for their 140 grain AMAX, but "recommends" 41.5 grains of H4350 right on the box of their factory 140 grain AMAX.

So sometimes "max" should not be exceeded and sometimes supra-maximal is "recommended."

Go figure.
