270 and 300 wsm have the same headspace, it's shorter than the 7 wsm.
A 6.5/270 wsm is about half way between a 300 WinMag and a 300 Norma on overbore, so the barrel life will be in that range. Probably more in the Norma direction.
I shoot a 7/300 wsm a lot using 270 brass. Necking up from .277 to .284 isn't much of a wildcat. Necking down to .264 wouldn't be either. I use a 7 wsm seating die and 270 bushing sizer with 7mm bushings.
The advantage of the 7/300 over the 7 is it's easier to find decent brass. I'm at about 1200 rounds. I'm not sure how much further it'll go, but it still shoots. For stuff in the 243 - 338 range, a coarse rule of thumb is you cash out about 1/3 the barrel life for every half mm you neck a given case down.
