I have a friend who was given his fathers rifle. It's a 6.5x300 Weatherby Mag. He has 10 loaded rounds and 100 pcs of formed brass. He DOES want to shoot it !! I know it's an older 1000 yard wildcat cartridge from the 70's. He has bullets but I'm not sure what they are yet. What are some of the modern powders that will work with this round ? He wants me to do some reloading for him. I asked this on another forum as well. They suggested H3831sc and H1000, plus using 264 Win Mag data and work up. Any other suggestions for this ?
Thanx again,

I'd discount the 4831, if that's what you meant, a slow burning powder for that big of case and overbore. I'd be more apt to look at Retumbo, N570 range, unless of coarse he's going to run light bullets.

Thank you again. I actually found some WC870 surplus powder, the same as the H870 powder. I did get a little more info on the rifle...it has a 32" barrel with 8 twist. I need to find out what bullets he has now.
Thanx again

Just a heads up. I'm not sure if 870 is a ball powder or not, but US 869 is, with a ball powder you're charge weight is there, but case volume may be lacking, which in turn can mess the burn times up=hang fires. These will get your attention!

The new 26 Nosler, is very, very similar in case capacity to the 6.5/300wby, depending on the brass tested, etc. I would spend my time studying the new data, remember the 26Nosler is a SAMMI round, and therefore has real pressure tested data (safe). Good luck to you.
