I need to order some bushings for my Surgeon 6.5x47 build. I found .290 should be the diameter of a loaded round so I would want .288 and .287 bushings. Is this correct?

I'll be using Berger 140 gr Hybrids and Lapua brass no neck turn

Bushings aren't exactly cheap so I want to make sure I order the right ones

Thanks

I wouldn't bother buying the .287. I agree with Vitali, just go with the .288. (I have been down the path of various size buttons and 2 thou' under works best).

Does your loaded round measure .290 with Lapua brass too?

I plan to run .002 neck tension I just don't have a round here I can measure.

To be exact .2870 , but I shoot 130 VLD's. I understand what you going trough... I had to buy 287,288,289 ..., but using .288 only for the last 3 years.

Awesome, thanks for the info

I will order the .288 bushing with my dies

I just purchased new 6.5x47 lapua brass from midway. With 140 eld-m my loaded round measures .288 on the outside of the neck.

It depends on your brass combo and whether you’re going to run an expander or not. Measure a loaded round, if you’ll be expanding take .003 off that and if no expanding try .002 less than the loaded diameter.

My loaded 6.5 x47 with RDFs measure .290. I bought both the Redding .287 and .288. Using the .288 gives my rounds .002 neck tension. I haven’t had to go back to the .287 bushing.
I anneal after every cleaning and get the same .002.

Im using 289 for new brass till 8-10 fires..brass intent to get thinner after that even with annealing..thats when i use 288 till brass got trashed..new brass gives .2895-.2900 and redding bushing intent to size neck .001 less than given size.
The 289 actually size the neck 288 that gives a loaded round 2 thousand neck tension

Interesting. I do not reload for a 6.5x47 yet but planning on doing it in the future. For my 260 a loaded round with Lapua brass measures. 293.5 -.294 from 2 different lots so I use .292 bushing. Is the 6.5x47 lapua brass neck thinner than 260 lapua brass? I would think they would either be the same or be different by. 001 or so.

Yup its thinner i too use 292 for my lapua 260 the x47 is about 0015-002 thinner

I finally got around to loading some rounds

With virgin Lapua 6.5x47 brass and Berger 140gr Hybrids it measures .290 so the .288 bushing was good to go thanks guys
