Which caliber would be better in 22" or below? I would like to achieve 2700fps with a 140gr bullet. How short can I go? Allready have a 26" long and heavy and wanting something more handy
If 2800fps with a 123g Scenar can be done with a 16.5" 6.5 Creed, I would imagine similar results seen with a x47 or 260. With a shorter barrel, projectiles around the 120-123g range seem to be the most viable option.
That said, I would also be interested to hear 136g Scenar-L and 140g Hybrid results with confirmed velocity data.
6.5 Creedmoor, 21" barrel: 2750 fps with Hornady factory 140 Amax load. You are really missing out on some awesome (and relatively cheap!) factory ammo if you go with x47 or .260.
I currently shot out a 6.5 creedmoor surgeon just yesterday and sent it off today for rebarrel to a x47.. my dad shoots a 260 surgeon..Im stuck on having to have lapua brass. Im building a whole new set up for more of a handy rifle for sure in 260 or x47. My old creedmoor will be a 25" x47 so I want something a lot different on the new build since I already have the long unhandy version lol
In my 20" .260 with a Brux 8.5" twist, I am getting 2755fps with 140 amax and 2850fps with 130 accubonds. Both loads are with H4350, Norma brass and Rem 9.5 primers. Seated to max AI mag length. I am generally shooting at around 275' asl.
