Gentleman's...My first 6.5x47 will be done this weekend. Need some educated opinions on load data. The gun has a 29" Bartlein 1-8.5 twist. I have 123gr. Scenars to start with and Varget and H4831SC for powder. Just looking for some starting loads, I can work them up from there.

Re: 6.5x47

Wow, that's a looooooooong barrel! I started at 36.5gr of Varget and worked my way up to 38.9gr with the 123gr Scenars. Found my load at 38gr. Though it was really hard to choose a load, they were all so damn accurate!

Re: 6.5x47

Reloader15 is another excellent powder to try. My load is 37.2gr R15 with 123 Lapuas in Lapua brass. Also think about trying the new Hornady 123 V-Max. I got excellent results with R15 on these.

Re: 6.5x47

About six months ago I worked up a Varget load. The best accuracy/velocity was exactly the same as my RL-15 load. THESE ARE HOT/HIGH PRESSURE. 38.4grs for my wife's 6.5x47 and 38.8 for mine. The difference is from the throats. Mine is a GAP build. My wife's is an APA build and has about a .1" shorter case OAL to get to the same distance from the lands. I have used CCI BR, S&B, CCI SR and CCI Military primers. Stay away from the CCI SR for any of these loads, in my guns it was necessary to shoot thicker primer cups to avoid piercing.

The RL-15 load was very accurate, but seemed to be a bit touchy to temperature when I tried to use it during an 60 round/60 minute 300 yard match. I loaded up some rounds using VV530 and it is reasonably accurate, but I pretty much used it because I had a bunch. That load is not as good as the RL-15 load or the Varget load. It is my hope that the "extreme" line powder will move less over a longer course of fire. The Varget load is very accurate, I think more accurate than the RL-15 load. I haven't gotten drop data, but according to Quickload it will be a little slower by about 15fps.
