6.5x55 wooden blank reload

I actually bought the blank a few months back but did not get around to do it. Now I get more motivated.

my question, I only have a Lee collet neck sizing die in 6.5 creedmoore. I don't use the decappin pin on it so I can.remove it. Will it work? Or I must get a calibre specific lee neck sizer or other brand any neck sizer with 6.5 expander.

Yeah looked at the video again. It seems that the neck sizing in this case is mainly to expand the squeezed neck, not press down the expanded neck due to firing. So an expander is needed. Is that understanding correct?

That’s not why it wouldn’t work. At least I don’t think that’s why he said it wouldn’t. The collet will squeeze it down around the mandrel. If it didn’t then it would just be a normal mandrel die.

Now im not saying it will or won’t work, I’m asking. How does the collet work? I assume the shoulders hit the collet and then that forces it up and subsequently down around the mandrel due to the wedging of the two pieces? Or does the collet extend low enough so that it hits the shell holder and that it what pushes it up? If the shoulders hit then I would assume that you could use it, if the shell holder then the collet won’t reach on a x55

So basically you’re just doing a Mexican match?

I believe the collet is squeezed when it hits the shell holder, so it won’t be tall enough to use on x55. A normal neck die might would work; I’ve sized 06 brass with a 308 neck die before.

Actually, if all you need to do is expand, the mandrel in the collet die would do that. But I don't know why you'd need to expand it. Is it sized different or crimped hard on those wooden trainers? Sorry, didn't watch but just a little of the video.

Contrary to fired brass where the neck is expanded and bullet will just fall through, these ones are just pressed to hold the wood. So he mentioned expand.

Used a RCBS neck sizing die and it worked well.
loaded 50 rounds and all function flawlessly.
