Anyone running a short 6.8 barrel, I have a 16" Krieger barrel with a SPC II chamber and it is a little long for hog hunting, when you add an 8" can to it. I just wanted to know what kind of speeds you are getting and how long of a barrel you are using. Right now I can push the 85 grain Barnes at 3050fps easy with Reloader 7. I know I wont get that, but hoping it will not drop too much. I was wanting to get a 10.5" barrel or something in that range, to make it worth the time to get a tax stamp.

Re: 6.8 SPC and SBR

I have a Noveske 6.8mm 10.5" upper that I am using. I was getting 2350 fps from a 110 Barnes TTSX but before I deployed I got some 95 TTSX's but I have not gotten to chrony them yet. I bet I can push them up into the 2500's but I will have to do some tests to see. I may even try some 85's and see what I can get them to. I have been using RL 10X powder as my main 6.8mm go to powder. I also have a LWRC M6A2 in 6.8mm with a 16" barrel and I was shooting the same bullets to 2650 with 28.5 grains of 10X. It was very accurate - 1 - 1.25 MOA at 100 yards. I did try to get up to 29.5 grains but I started to get signs of pressure and the groups opened up to almost 2 MOA at 100 so I backed it back down and have settled on the 28.5 grains.

Re: 6.8 SPC and SBR

29.5 gr RE7 with the 85TSX as long as the barrel is a 11-12 twist and SPCII or ARP. I've built 20-30 12" with mid gas they only loose about 150fps from a 16" so 2900-2950
May loose another 50fps going to a 10.5

I see I need to try the 85 TSX's...that will be a worthy project as hunting season comes around again.

Re: 6.8 SPC and SBR

When you contact John @Noveske make sure you go for the stainless barrel not the chrome lined. The accuracy difference is amazing. He is bordering on voodoo magic with his stainless barrels. I have 3 different factory Noveske stainless riflesa they are the most accurate systems I have ever run. His 10.5" stainless 6.8 is deadly out around 3-350 yds. His 12.5" units will shoot hole for hole with most 16-18" platforms.
