Republic of Texas.
So I recently built a BRA. I’m liking it more every time I shoot it. It is easy to load, easy to tune, and stupid accurate.

So I hear a wide variety of stories and opinions. What do you guys think a legitimate barrel life will be on one? Not shooting BR or F class, PRS mostly. I’ve heard everywhere from 2500 to 4000. Has anybody in here ever worn one out?

Im sitting at 2400 rounds currently and no accuracy or velocity drop. I have a second barrel spun up ready for it but will keep shooting it until I see issues

Any ideas how long a 22 BRA barrel will last if it’s not pushed too hard? Sorry if this is too far off topic

Well that sure is hopeful! Thank you for chiming in.
No probably, I can report back when it goes but I may forget depending on how long it goes for. I’m shooting prs so I’m not worried about absolute f-class/benchrest accuracy so even when it drops off a bit I should still get a bit more out of it simply due to the style of shooting. I’ll probably hang on to it for practice barrel or even just a fireforming barrel

Same here. I’m also sure this would be a prime candidate for a setback.

So have you measured your lands? Any idea how much you’ve lost in 2400?

No specifics yet, just a barrel I’m thinking about picking up at some point
If I wanted to make a little heavier bullet go a little faster, may I suggest the 223 AI? That makes a little gun turn into a medium gun almost pretty quickly. It’s a good bit better performance than a standard 223. It would also probably have infinite more barrel life than what you were looking at I would stab a guess at it.

The plan that’s clanging around in my head is a remage setup based on an r700 action with .473 bolt face so any barrels will be ordered around that criteria.

One concern with a rem 700 is that they usually have a larger .078" firing pin in the standard .473 bolt face and that doesnt play as well with the small primer cases. You might find that you are popping primers and the fix for that is to have the bolt bushed to a smaller diameter .062 firing pin. Just something to be aware of.

Why not just get something like an Origin?

Great quality, good price.

Personally, I would love to play with a .22BRA. Currently have a 6BRA, and its my favorite cartridge by far. I think a .22BRA would be a lot of fun.

I just don't have the opportunity to shoot near as much as I used to, so adding to the collection of cartridges to reload for doesn't make sense at this present time. But when the opportunity presents itself, I would love to have a short (~20-22") 22BRA barrel to play with (suppressed of course).

Good to know, thanks

I already have this rifle so it’s only a matter of swapping barrels now. Maybe when my kids get older I can give this to them and build myself a rifle around a nice custom action

I have been running my 28" hawkhill 6bra at 2900-2920 with 105s using Varg/H4350. In 600 rounds there's no firecracking, and only 004 measured throat erosion. I haven't tuned the load whatsoever through this. Yesterday I shot a 0.28" 4 shot group at 300y with a full case of h4350 and 105hyb at 30k jump. Much bettee than my 6gt running 109s at the same speed with 4350, it averaged 0.003"/100 rounds erosion. Bra is a bad lil dude. I have never shot a group larger than 3/4 moa through any load development.

I wish they offered factory loadings... I've realized that at no point in the foreseeable future will I buy into a rifle that doesn't shoot factory loaded ammo. Now, if I had an dialed in progressive setup with a bunch of automation so as not to leave my soul at the reloading bench... different story.
