Only plan to run a 110/115 or 105 out of an 18.5" barrel at 2800-2850 fps range. I've built a test barrel setup and did some H4350/ARComp testing to see what was possible and the charges needed to get there (See below for results). 105RDFs gave me speed more than I needed but I dont mind them in the 2900s. There is no wind advantage for either until you get to about 3000fps and then I can 0.1 mil in the wind. Id rather run it slower, get better barrel/brass life then try and kill it for only a .1 difference.

    H4350
    -110smk: 39.9-41.0 gave me 2805-2863
-105RDF: 41.2-42.3 gave me 2850-2910 (nice flat spot at 41.8-42.1

    AR Comp
-110smk: 35.5-36.5 gave me 2853-2890 (nice flat spot at 36.1-36.4)
-105RDF: 36.0-36.6 gave me 2942-2949 (nice flat spot at 36.0-36.3)

At these charge weights there is quite a bit of space in the case and I know filling to where the shoulder starts is best typically. So my question is what powders other than H1000 and H100v are out there that will work for my FPS, are temp stable and give a bit better case fill?

H1k will work if you’re wanting to run in the 29s and in my experience, is better suited for the heavier bullets (DTACs, 110 SMKs).

I loaded up one ladder test for shigs, and it actually produced solid spreads and accuracy. Never tested it beyond 300 yards but it certainly showed enough promise to merit further testing if I wasn’t such a velocity whore.

I'd look into Reloder 16 and 26. 16 will fill the case a little more than H4350, even at the same charge because of its extra bulk. 26 is a magnum powder and produces impressive velocity too.

Thanks for the feedback. Going to give H1000 and H4831sc (or regular if I cant find sc) a shot and see what I get. I like the RLs but being in NC our matches can be 20deg through 110deg during the match season (jan through dec). I've had more stability out of the H series than I have the RLs.

Once I get my hands on some and test I'll report back here for anyone interested.

The new Reloders are a different animal than the old stuff. Reloder 16 has actually proven to be more temp stable than H4350 or Varget! I haven't checked stability yet on RL23 or RL26, but they should easily beat the old RL powders (RL 15, 22, and 25) But Hodgon makes some fantastic powder too, so let us know what you find.

All powders are going to change velocity with 90 degrees of temperature variance. Pick the powder that shoots the best, log your load development, and load ammo accordingly. The hand wringing over temperature sensitivity is overstated, it won't be 20 degrees to 110 degrees on the same day.

And again, H1000 doesn't work in 243/6CM, at 107% fill you will be below 50K PSI. H4831 is great for 105gr to 110gr and is one of the better temperature stable powders. RL22 also gets great velocity in that weight range.

H4831 is the one im more interested in. I had some iffy experience with RL in the past with temp swings but it was a while ago. If I come across one of those I'll maybe pick up a can of 22 or 26 and see what I get instead of the H1000.

Again not looking for much more than 2850 +/- 50fps with a 110/115 just needed more case fill for the velocity.

    I'm getting 2820 with a 147 eld-m in my 24" 6.5CM with 42.5gr of RL-16 and it's quite resilient to temperature swings.
I worked that load up in July, and last night while shooting it and getting the same velocities and ESs, I could see my own breath, FWIW.

the 6.5 Creedmoor is dependent on the type or powder and pill you will use. If you decide to dabble in the heaviest of the bullets with the slower burning powder ( anything long the line of Superformance and slower ) you will see much better results using LRP and magnum primers. If you stick to the traditional ( H4350, RL16 , IMR4350 ) SRPs work fantastic. Using Magnum Small Rifle primers is completely up to you. That has been my experience reloading for these cartridges.
Side note: I had some very good results using H1000 and the 110 SMKs.

Of the RL powders, I'd try the RL23. Been using it in a few rounds and is temp. stable.
The VV150 or 160 is also a choice. I'd stay away from the VV500 series, It's a double based powder
it will give a little more speed, but burns really hot compared to the 100 series which burn
really cool. They are at the opposite ends of the chart. The VV100 series, are pretty clean burning also.

Well my usually stocked gun store only had h4831 and h4831sc. So testing h4831sc tomorrow.

Figure ill start at about 43

Edit: anyone have QL know what% burnt with 44gr out of an 18.5" with 110smk ? Probably should have mentioned this is going to be 100% suppressed so would be nice to know

Here is the velocity results for h4831sc (right page). Will have to test higher, no crunching at 44.9. Left is the h4350 test for sd/es where i had flat spots. With my reamer the 110smks are jumping .110 just to fit in the mag. Smks have really done best for me in the .020 jump range so im thinking at this point either get a reamer more appropriate or use an XC reamer made for 110/115 i have. Xc would help my case fill issue a bit and id just run h4350 since its a bit more appropriate in this application.

Rl16 will most likely be the best powder for what you are trying to do. Little slower burning than h4350 but faster than 4831
It is super fluffy and will fill the case ,and it will give great speed. If your barrel was a little longer then I would say rl23 would be best. Both are top notch though

After crunching some numbers for lengths ive opted to go 6XC. The reamer I have is more suited for 110s in an AICS mag. The Creedmoor reamer i have is .183 freebore and worked better in my AW mag setups.

6xc will also help me with this case fill issue. Going to try rl16, h4350, rl17 and this AR Comp i have 21#s of.
