69 vs 77

Re: 69 vs 77

I think you may be able to get 77's to load in a mag. I know Sierra offers them with a cannalure. I only load them for a bolt gun. Hornady has a 75 gr BTHP that will load in a mag. They load it in the TAP line. I am sure the 69 will make it.

Re: 69 vs 77

I have used both in AR as well as a bolt. The 77 will give better long range results on paper and game.
I have shot about 20 coyotes with the 77 and 25 with the 69. I think the 69 is a bit quicker killer at short to med range. I have had them run 50 yards with the 77 with good chest hits. This is only a problem when shooting at groups. The 77 has cost me a few coyotes as I was following up on a well hit coyotes that I was not sure of. So a lot of it depends on what you are going to use it for.
My favorite load on the 77 is 24 grains of TAC Win case, Fed 205M primer seated to mag length. The TAC will drop better than Varget out of a measure and speeds up loading. Accuracy is sub MOA to 600 yards.

Re: 69 vs 77

I had a pof rifle 1-7 twist that would shoot 77 smk very well but would key hole 69 smk at 400yds. I have a 1-7 custom barrel that will shoot 69gr smk better than the 77gr, I guess it just depends on what the gun likes.
