6mm-06

Re: 6mm-06

That twist is wayyyyyyy to slow for anything heavier than probably 90grainers.

That's alot of horsepower for light bullets and it would be a waste to shoot anything less than the heaviest bullet you can with the twist that you have.

Re: 6mm-06

Half load, due to the increased powder charge and velocity, you might be able to get away with the 95's with that twist. Yes, it is slower than typically recommended in a 6mmRem or 243, but you also have considerably greater powder capacity in your case. Get a box and give them a whirl. At the least, you will get some more range time in. Keep us posted on what your find out.

Re: 6mm-06

I bet you can shoot 105 amaxes in it. Especially at the speeds you are speaking of. That thing will move on out in a 26 barrel for sure. You wont know till you try. It will be right on the edge. Your in gravel switch I see. Thats not far from me. I have one but I havnt played with it in a long time. I alway shot 85 gr bthps in mine for everything. Kills like lightning. What doe this rig look like? Is it old? Who built it?

Geting it second hand.Supposed to have less than 50 rounds fired through it.I can't wait till it gets here.I will post a few picks when I get it.6MM round is my favorite for shooting crows, ground hogs, coyotes, ot anything else that moves.

Re: 6mm-06

I had an interestin return letter from P. O. Ackley's Daughter several years ago. I had found an address for P. O. Ackley in an old magazine and sent off asking for info on the 6.5/284.

The 6.5-06 and the 6.5/284 are basically the same cartidge (reloading date and case capicity). Both heavily influenced/designed by P. O. Akley as per his daughter.

You should be able to use 6.5/284 reloading data. As always, start low and work up . . .

Re: 6mm-06

You might try willsnipe on here via PM. I seem to remember him having a 6 Catbird at some point. The 6 Catbird, as I recall from asking him, is a 6-06 IMP.

With that twist rate you'll probably be stuck with <90gr bullets, H1000 would be my first suggested point for powder.
