Hey guys,

Can anyone confirm/deny through use/first-hand experience that 6mm Creedmoor & 6.5 Creedmoor die bodies are the same..?

- I'm currently running 6mm Creedmoor and using the Hornady Match Grade set (full-length sizing/bushing die & micrometer seating die) which I scored for a deal, and though I figured I'd switch to Redding dies, they work great and I actually kind of like them.
I'm kicking around the idea of switching to 6.5 Creedmoor when my current barrel is smoked to gain some added barrel life, and figured I could just swap out the bushing in the sizing die and seating stem in the seater and be good to go for 6.5 creed without even needing to buy new dies... but, I emailed Hornady, and heard back "Unfortunately they are not the same die body."

I don't get it, seems like just swapping bushings/stems should work..?

The bore at the top of the shoulder in the 6mm die is too small to accommodate the 6.5. And ya, the Hornady match sizers are nice. You’d be downgrading going to Redding, and paying twice as much. Not even close.

You can fit a smaller item through a larger hole. So you can put a 6 bushing in a 6.5 die and go smaller with it.
You cant fit larger item through a smaller hole, you would have to ream some of the neck material out it sounds like to get the 6.5 bullet through the smaller 6 die hole.
