Currently running a 24 inch 6x47 lapua with 108 hornady eldm and rl16 with a Tbac ultra 9. I’m very happy with accuracy and velocity hitting 3020 node well under max load. With 1200 rounds down the tube I’m being proactive on getting another barrel ordered. I’m considering going 22 inch where I have a long suppressor to shorten things up. I feel it can easily still get my velocity goal of current load.

So my question is with this combo with a goal of staying at 3020 ish speed and no intentions of pushing 3100+ can I run this combo and get close to 100% powder burn (rl16) in the barrel? Or at what length will I start to not accomplish that? Assuming I am now.

I haven’t had time to invest and learn quick load at this point but assume it could provide guidance along with experiences of shooters here. Hoping to gain some insight before I order a barrel next week.

IME, you will have to add more powder to generate the same speed as you have now. Even though you still may have a complete burn of your powder, unless your barrel length is creating unwanted(doubt it) drag, longer barrels always yield more speed.

I’m most concerned about getting the powder burned completely in barrel as I’ve read of it doesn’t burn in barrel it can cause excess carbon buildup in suppressor and even make it run hotter.

Rl16 seems slower than varget more like 4350. I was running 37 grains varget then went to rl16 just over 39 grains and lower velocity’s but much better case fill. I could go back to varget but I have 6 pounds or so of 16 to use up. Maybe I’ll try 22 and if I don’t like result I can change powder. I might buy quick load this weekend and try to see what I can learn too.
