6X5 Thread V5.0 *new 1/1/21*

9/4/2022
1957 BRNO Model 2, MDT Chassis
Mueller 8-32
Lapua SK Pistol Match
I bought this old BRNO with no blueing left and a broken stock for $170. I was going to shoot some SK PMS just to season the barrel before trying some Center X. It shot well so I kept going.

I ended up shooting the whole box for a 9x5 that averaged .295” @ 50 yards. Measured outside of grease rings.

That is a very consistent rifle Jerry. Please feel free to post as many times as you want to, if you want to only post one target per month that's fine too. I enjoy seeing everyone's targets, rifles, and banter about it.

2500X with Shilen Ratchet at 50 yds in my ballistic tunnel.
I was testing 4 lots of the latest shipment of Tenex from KSS.
Three lots failed, but this lot passed.

I would love to see how my rifle would perform in a rest like that in a ballistic tunnel. That is an impressive setup 💪

20-30mph winds all weekend. Even with double the bc I ain’t shooting 22 in that shit unless I have to
Yeh, I wouldn't waste $0.55 a round 22lr either. I am looking forward to see how they perform. My buddies both bought 2k of the cutting edge kit but neither has loaded or shot them.

I have some of the CE 50gr bullets as well. While their bc isn’t quite as high, it’s still a huge step up from standard lead

I am getting a max spread of .246 with my OnTarget software. Am I doing something wrong because when I compare this software to the calipers I am getting tighter grouping results. I am assuming the inner circles or .50" diameter. That is what I calibrated the software to.

Typically, when you measure with calipers, you would go from the edge of the dark ring around the hole, since the hole is actually smaller than the bullet. That might explain the difference?

Which is why it is more accurate to measure the actual dark ring on the target using that ammo, that backer, and that paper and subtract that amount ... which is often .20 or .21 for me. You can trust the OnTarget numbers.

Sorry if this seems redundant Rimfireshooter99 but the measuring of some of these shooters is more than a little optimistic in some instances.

Nice results Mr.Hotty.

This has always been a talking point & has discussed many times over the years in this thread and others. Normally a 22lr shot through regular printer paper will make a hole much under bullet diameter with black ring that is just under bore diameter (as stated). My method of measuring rimfire groups is to measure outside of the furtherest black rings leaving a crack (like just barely noticeable, about 0.001” ish) of target exposed between the blade of my calipers and the black ring. I then subtract 0.222” to get the CTC measurement.

As far as I am concerned in regards to this thread, just get your targets measured as best as you can. It really isn’t a big deal, this is about the joy and frustration that is rimfire group shooting.

Been a little while. Im approaching 700-800 rds on the barrel and seems to be settling in.
I’m most impressed with groups shooting Eley Hi velocity hollow points( only 1 flier) The 6-5 is shot at 50 yds using Center X, Biathlon Xtreme, Eley High Velocity Hollow points. I have 10 shots on the head of the Silhouette at 150yds with Biathlon Xtreme it was pretty tight, 5 shots of eley on the center. Same rig as my last Submission

Yeah, that looks like the wind was not kind to you. Gotta love rimfire! I have you on the 100 yard results

MY first target with a new Stiller 2500x. It has a NIghtforce 15x55-52 scope and I used Eley match ammo.
I forgot to take a picture. I will next time. It was shot at 50 yards on 11-15-22.

One new gun and two new lots of ammo. I was out comparing the new Berg to one of my CZ’s. This CZ will no longer be legal for ARA Factory class in 2023. The Bergara will now be so I bought one. It didn’t fare well against this CZ. The next one will be tougher. It did shoot as well as can be expected though. Also I’ve read of a lot of feeding/ejection issues with the B14R, but this one so far is flawless. Bolt close is a little hard, but no harder than my other match chambered guns. This lot of SK Semi-Auto is pretty good for the money.

Bergara B14R, Mueller 40x, Jewell BR trigger
