7-08

Long story short, I recently bought a Tikka 595 in 7-08, which I will shoot till it needs a new barrel (and then do a 260)

The rifle will only be used to shoot the NCPPRC tactical steel matches. They only go out to 550 yards and are 90% steel with a small amount of precision paper targets.

Assuming the accuracy is there, is there any reason to shoot anything heavier than a 130gr bullet in the 2900-3000 fps range. Alliant shows a load with RL17 at 3007, and Lapua shows one at 2950 and one at 3005.

The JBM numbers at those velocities look really good.

I have had good accuracy with BLC-2 and 139 gr pills.
Never shot RL17 out of it though. Just sayin.

It's mostly how much a projectile blows in the wind that matters.If you go to JBM calculations and research which bullet does the best in the wind you'll be ahead of the game.Highest BC bullets usually fare the best.
