Long story short, I recently bought a Tikka 595 in 7-08, which I will shoot till it needs a new barrel (and then do a 260)
The rifle will only be used to shoot the NCPPRC tactical steel matches. They only go out to 550 yards and are 90% steel with a small amount of precision paper targets.
Assuming the accuracy is there, is there any reason to shoot anything heavier than a 130gr bullet in the 2900-3000 fps range. Alliant shows a load with RL17 at 3007, and Lapua shows one at 2950 and one at 3005.
The JBM numbers at those velocities look really good.
