Contrary to popular belief, 54r surplus ammo is actually quite good (as well as 5.45x39 surplus). As far as quality control goes, on average the ammo is pretty mediocre, reaching consistency and quality of mid grade .308 ammo and sometimes better depending on the type. Most surplus bullets are steel cored. You cannot buy steel core bullets anywhere on the market, so be appreciative of the capabilities of these bullets.
The idea of crappy surplus comes in because all other surplus is typically way crappy, more specifically older american surplus. In addition, the majority of the guns russian surplus is fired through had some of the worst quality control known to firearms. The difference between the best match grade & surplus ammo in your PSL i promise will be less than 1 moa. Unless the surplus ammo is 7n1, which was specifically designed for the dragnov & will pull 1moa or better, even in field conditions.
