At this rate we are already under full gun control in our wonderful state of NJ.

How long are the rest of you waiting?

BTW, I picked up my first .260 Remington Tikka Sporter...I think I'm going to love the round, not too sure about the stock colors yet

Maybe a hydro dipping in my future

In california, we have to wait 10 days... long guns and hand guns alike.
Those of you that "walk in and walk out" better keep the thumb screws to your politicians every chance you get, or you'll wake up one day and you'll be "waiting" too.

Sent my foid card renewal in on the first business day of jan, check cleared my bank jan 23. Still no card yet, by law they are supposed to accept or deny applications in 30 days. My current foid card expired3-1-13,a day before my tikka sporter260 got to my smith's. Get to go fundle it tomorrow, maybe measure oal with a couple different bullets and load up some different powder charges. Called foid office and was told with all the gun purchases it might take up to 90 days from when the check clears the bank. Guess i will be calling my state rep again.

Marylands 7 day wait is over 40 days right now. MSP doesn't have the staff to process applications any faster.

Excuse my ignorance but what's a FOID? Here in Kentucky we just fill out the 4473, wait while the dealer calls NICS, pay and walk out with gun in hand. Takes about 10 minutes. If you have a concealed carry license they don't even have to call into NICS.

In Michigan, it takes the length of time to fill out the paper work and hand over the cash.

It usually takes me a hour or so, most of it is spent bull shitting

built up a caspian framed 1911 last year, even though the slide didnt fit on the frame I still had to wait 3 days. Good ol Illinois....

This is so true, these things happen when you think they'll never happen! Because of the Corps I've lived all over the states, and those of you who live in the states where you pay and walk out (like I have in the past) need to guard that ability jealously.

My last purchase was in December and the NCIS check took less than 5 minutes. Paid and out the door.

When I lived in new mexico (last year) there was no 5 day wait, it was in and out, is that something they recently instituted? In GA its in and out and if you have a your CC permit then they don't have to call NICS.

In answer to LSOSGT1109, the FOID card is a firearms ownship indentification card. You must have on you to hunt, buy guns and ammo. It is a state requirement, and supposedly they (the state of IL) perform a back ground check before they issue it.

You still have to wait 7 days after the purchase to pick up a handgun and 3 days for a rifle, that assumes that the NCIS check goes through.

That is how it was when I left, which was back in 2000.

in iowa, when i bought my AR a month ago i walked in and filled out the 4473, came back and retrieved my rifle the next day. smooth as can be.

It is 3 days for a handgun and 1 for anything else.

Yeah that blows! You guys need to move to free America! LOL

Here in PA just fill out a form (5-10 minutes), PICs check (fast if not too busy), pay, and leave with purchase. Am so glad i moved from NJ!

What are you talking about? I have purchased countless firearms in nj and never waited a second. If nics is backed up it is not NJs fault. The only temporal restictions in nj is one handgun every 30 days and you have to wait seven days after the date you submitted your fid application. Since it takes months anyway, the seven day period is moot. If your dealer is making you wait seven days for a rifle...find a new dealer.

NICS has been backed up in NJ the past couple months. My dealer cannot phone in a NICS check anymore, he can only fax it in and wait for the service to give him the approval. My purchase last week took 5 days for approval.

Gotcha...another byproduct of the chicken little syndrome.

That is what I don't really understand. The NCIS is a federal deal, not a state run thing. I just got done buying a shotgun here (Iowa) in the last couple of weeks and it only took about 5 minutes to get through and verified.

Is NJ requiring something else?

Let me know how to move about 1500 acres of excellent farm ground to a different state and i am onboard

NJ uses a middle man system to do the checks, FFL calls 900# for NJ nics, they take info then call FEDERAL nics which runs the federal checks while NJ runs their own state data bases, then NJ says yes no to dealer. This process usually only takes 10-15min.

As of late my local FFL has seen anywhere from 2 days to 20 days. Its a really shitty antiquated BS system that does nothing. Add that to the possibility it could take up to or more than a year to get a permit to purchase a handgun. You need one EVERY time you get a pistol.

Some towns are 1 week turn around others are more than a year, some dept also institute more BS faggotry than the state allows by law.

It really blows but our state gunrights org. NJ2AS, is really pushing the issues as of late to make local dept follow the law.

Since NJ is running their own data base, are they erasing it after 90 days like the Feds are suppose to do, or are they keeping it indefinitely?

Background check in Colorado as of a week ago was down to a couple hours. Cant complain to much with that kind of wait since the wait two months ago was up to 13 days. Before long in Colorado we will be limited to rubber band guns, That is until a stray band puts out some childs eye.

And, congrats on your new rifle. Have fun with it.
