Need help getting a good load for my 7 saum it’s on a bighorn action a manners stock and a 1-8 twist 26 inch barrel

I have a similar build. Haven't started load development for it yet, but will follow this post and provide any details if i ever find time to do development.

I've been running 60.0gr RL-26 in Norma Brass, 210M primer, 180ELD-M 2.95 COAL mag fed from my Bighorn TL3 short action. 2950fps, but I've got a 30" barrel.

I also ran the Berger 195's, 58.8gr RL26 at 2880 fps, same barrel. Bit warmer of a load but it shot good.

It would help if you gave us your bullet picks. But H1000 and IMR 7977 both work good with 180's, start a little below 62gr.
I think RL 26 is proving to be good also, make sure you buy enough, it can disappear on you.

Norma brass if you can find it. With the 1:8 I'd look into the 175 ELDX for hunting, or the 180 eldm for target. For accuracy run H4831SC, for speed run RL26.

Is this thread still alive? I’m working up a kid for my 7saum preferred barrel using the 180 eldm and the accuracy isn’t why I’d expect or want best was 1.5” but 2650fps best sd 4 and es 11 was 61gr But crap accuracy any advice? Also
barrel is 26”
H1000 (61gr)
Fed 215m magnum primers
Norma brass 180eldm seated to mag length at 2.906 ( short action )

In thick brass H1000 is not optimal in a short action loading.

180 eldm’s at 2.94(.050 jump) with r26 got me 2960 fps and quite good accuracy with regular large rifle primers.
To get H1000 up to speed I had to single feed to gain case capacity.

I just worked up a 55-56.5 grains of h4350 gonna be trying those in a day or two also I’m at mag length with my rounds right about 2.906

If you just have a normal 7 saum chamber your jumping a lot and losing a lot of capacity.
H4831 might-be a good alternative

Mine is a long action.
65.0g h1000 or 64.5g Retumbo with 180 hybrid are my accuracy loads.
I can’t get to 65 in mine I’m running a short action and running length of 2.906 but I’m gonna try and get 2.900 and work from 61 to 64 or the barrel is going back

Try a faster burning powder like H4831sc or RL26
Should also mention I’ll be working with some h4350 from 53 to 55 and I can’t find 26 anywhere I was looking at 33 but decided not to use it I’ve got 16 pounds of h4350 feeding two Creedmoors so I’ll probably stick to that one

H4831 is a better choice.

Is it as consistent and what speeds do you see?
H4831 And SC is really consistent
2950 fps with 168’s and shoots amazingly, oal is 2.84 and was really easy on brass.

I did get 2850 with 180’s but that load was really mild, I feel 2900 ish is doable within pressure limits.

I’ve played with H4831SC in a few cartridges now and two things I always see, single digit SD’s and easy accuracy.

I can always find that powder too I might have to try it out

180gr Hybrids
Norma Brass
Tula Magnum Primers
60.8gr H4831SC
2840ish fps
24” length and 8” Twist

Below group on orange target was 610 yards with 60.9gr in virgin brass and I believe I was about 0.015”jump.

The diamond target is 300 yards and running seating depth from 0.045”-0.095” jump. Backed charged to 60.8gr since brass is fire formed. 0.075-0.095” jump were the top left 3 rounds measuring easy under an inch.

I’ve also used H4831sc with 150ablr’s and 168ablr’s at 61.0grains and also got good groupings. H4831SC like others have mentioned has worked really well for me.

I’ll have to give it a try I’m also gonna have to single feed my 7 saum which I’m not very excited about but I’m curious if it’ll actually shoot some what decent

I just single feed the 190’s
I prefer to single feed for ELR anyways

I mag feed 168‘s with H4831sc or R26 and did mag feed 180 ELDM with R26 with excellent speed and accuracy.
The 168 is right up on the lands if you want in mag length and are really nice to shoot.

So your jumping .026?
That’s perfect in my opinion,,I almost always jump .020 to .060 and I’ve had loads that hammer with twice that amount of jump.

Some 7 saum luvins
1930 yards
Red plate is 12”

Had to adjust elevation for an upswell common at that location.

I was loading at 2.906 and it was in accurate as no other so I figured start there with .26 jump and add more if needed also that video is some good shooting

The main driver for the 300yard test was to see if there was a wider node in seating depth as I’ve observed that the hybrids will shoot really well somewhere in the 0.010-0.020” jump range but it is very narrow. The 300yard seating depth test seemed to show no major change of impact from 0.075-0.095”. Basically said I think Its stating to prove out what the PRS Blog article regarding Mark Gordon’s work with seating depth saw.

Whar was the load in Gr and how long is your barrel?
