Looking to rebarrel a 223 700 and can't seem to find a 7 twist barrel anywhere. 8 twists seem to be readily available.

    2 questions:

    1. I would like to shoot 75 grain factory match ammo at various ranges at paper and steel (just for fun) ... how much difference would I see with a 7 vs an 8 twist out to 600 yards?

    2. Where can I find a 7 twist if I "need" one.

    THANKS

Any factory 75gr stuff should shoot fine in a 1-8, no problem.

I shoot 80 grain long vld stuff in the 1-8 if I recall correctly.

1-7 is common in AR's, rare in bolt guns, you only need 1-7 for stuff like the 90 grain Bergers.

8-twist will be fine for what you want to do. If you want to spin 'em a hair faster, both Krieger and Brux make a 7.7 twist. I'm shooting a 7.7 twist Brux on my Beanland build and am very impressed with it. 75 gr AMAX's and 80 gr JLK's.
