Not to diminish the seven year Olds heroism, but why didn't dad cut the anchor line and get the kids with the boat?

I read it that the dad and daughter floated away from the boat.

The way I understand it, dad was on the boat, and the kids were swimming when the kids started drifting from the boat, unfortunately in different directions.
