700 5r milspec .223 24" barrel performer!

I pulled my .223 5r out of the safe and decided to work with it a bit. found a load it likes. 77gr smk under 21gr varget. Here are some results. 100 yrd 3 shot group and 300 yrd 5 shot group out of a 223!

NICE groups! I'll have to try the 77's in my 5R since I have them on hand, the old standby Hornady 75 HPBT's are nowhere to be found. How were you seating them off the lands?

I took a neck sized case an set the 77 grain bullet in it then chambered it in my rifle. The bullet seated its self. You measure that with a micrometer then subtract fifteen thousandths so you are not into the lands. The stock is a bell and Carlson a5 I believe. Picked it up a while ago.

They are so much FUN to shoot!! My shooting partner has the exact same rifle. I took it out to 925 yards 2 weeks ago. It was factory lapua... I believe it was a 69 grain Scenar. That or a 69 can't remember. His doesn't shoot as good as yours... That's like a custom. You ought to shoot ftr with that rig!!!

I do shoot FTR but with a custom 308. I may take this out next time around if the wind will cooperate with me. I just hate shooting the .223 because we have multiple winds across the club we shoot NRA high-power at.

Thanks, for posting that. I "got one", about 6 mos. ago, and haven't had the time to shoot her, or do loads. Shot some factory Remmy's, but that's all. Nice to know she could be a shooter.

21gr Varget...what's the velocity on that load? Seems to shoot well, no matter the speed.

It is close to 2600 fps. Not a fast load but a consistent one.
