So I've been wanting a bolt gun for a very very long time. I've always got way too many projects going on, and the bolt gun always seemed to be at the bottom of the list. Well, I finally decided to get started.

Found an ADL in .243 at a local gun shop, the action and bolt will be all I'll use, but it's in great condition. I'll sell the stock and barrel to get a little cash back.

got a B&C light tactical stock:

Got a used mk4 4.5-14x for a damn fine price, an IOR 20 moa rail, and some warne rings. Also got a Badger knob, and an oversized recoil lug

Okay, oversized may be an understatement. It's huge

Got a CDI bottom metal, and some of C-products new bolt gun mags on the way. I've had good luck with c-products AR mags, so I figure I'll give these a try.
Pac-nor blank should be here in a week or two (polygonal rifling, 1:10, 22" finished length, Varminter/Sendero profile), then I'll send everything off to my gunsmith.

I'm pretty damn excited, to say the least

Oh, sorry, dunno how I forgot that part.

Ahem....

Yeah, I know, It's not original, but I like the tried and true thing. It'll do well enough everywhere between 100 and 1k yds, and I still have plenty of options for when I decide to use it for hunting.

Re: 700 build thread with lots of pics

Interesting that c-products makes bolt gun mags now. I also have quite a few of their AR mags and they work great. Please do let us know how they work with CDI's DBM when you have everything done.

I'm going to compare them to a friend's genuine AI mags, and I'll have a detailed review up in a week or so.

Re: 700 build thread with lots of pics

I'm interested to see how the CDI metal turns out on your built. I have the same stock and have considered it multiple times.

Good to know about the mags. Give us a function report when you can.

It's going to take a little inletting on the stock, especially around the corners. Shouldn't be too terribly bad though.

Re: 700 build thread with lots of pics

Time for a quick update.
My gunsmith tried to chop his foot off, which put this project on hold for a little bit. (long story)
A couple days ago, he was putting the crown on the barrel and got out the bore scope to take a closer look when he found some machine marks on the lands of the barrel. Turns out the went the full length of the bore. He gave pac-nor a call, and it sounds like they had a few barrels go out with the same problem. They're making me a new one, and should be in my hands soon.
The frustrating part is my gunsmith said he'd have it done that day if it weren't for the barrel.

I already upgraded my scope. Sold the old MK4 without even using it, sold the old barrel and stock from the rifle to recoup some of my initial investment, and got one of Leupold's new FFP Mk4's with the Mil dials. I'm pretty excited about it, and had to mount it on something until the bolt gun arrived. Shitty cell pic:

I should have more updates soon.

Re: 700 build thread with lots of pics

Just over a year, and this thing is finally done.

gonna try and get some loads worked up tomorrow, and then convince someone who has a membership at the local range to let me in to test them.

I'm really happy with how it turned out. If it shoots as well as I'm hoping, I'll be one happy camper.

Re: 700 build thread with lots of pics

I'd say she shoots.
These are while working up a load, not my best but still not too shabby, I'd say, for 4 different loads. Next is to load up some more and go a little further than 100 yds.

I'm liking it quite a bit. At about half the cost of the McM stock, I think it's the best bang for the buck stock out there right now.
I do like the feel of the McM stocks better, but not double the cost better.

That was my big concern as well...$$$$. I figured since I bought this rifle/scope (Vortex) combo, to be budget oriented, seemed kind of silly to go spend alot on a stock. And, after doing my homework, it seems that teh B&C, just like you said, for teh dollar, is tough to beat.

Re: 700 build thread with lots of pics

I've also been looking at B&C stocks for the same reason. StocksStocks.com seems to have a good price. I haven't searched around alot but it appears to be a good start.
