There's one for sale close to the house, do any of you guys have any opinions on it before I spend some time looking at it?

I just got mine but its a very nice rifle and shoots well so far and thats with factory loads. How much does he want for it what does it come with and ask what the round count is.
I just got one in .308. I'm shooting consistantly under 0.6 MOA 3 shot groups at 100 yards with my hunting handloads (that aren't tuned for maximum accuracy). It needed some work done (I can list it out if you like) but it was very much worth it.
Got mine from buds guns online it was just under 1100 and the threaded was just over 1100 but not by more then $50.

Seems a little high for a bare rifle when a new one can be had for not much more. Base, rings, bipod, dies, low round count would help make it worth a grand provided nothing is out of a blister pack from Wally World.

.300WN Factory 5R - worth it?
From what I hear, these rifles are GOOD shooters right out of the bot. Knock on wood, the .308s surely are. That said though, if you don't mind a bit of a wait, $1,100 will go a good part of the distance in terms of having a custom .300WM built.
Say; $400 for an action with trigger, etc, & $750 or so to get it rebarrelled. Plus whatever you had in mind for a stock. Or call it $175 or so for an inexpensive, pre-loved composite stock, that, or about th4 same for a NIB Boyd's or similar, laminate - bedding included.
The extra weight of a laminated stock will assist with the recoil control in this caliber. Also, by going this route, you can specify (& or purchase from your smith) the reamer with which the chamber is originally cut, so that the chamber's essentially the same each time you have it set back.
Another perk of going with a custom barrel... you can specify a bit of extra tube in the breech area for just this purpose.
So if you know what it is specifically in a build... just refer to my $00.02 of math above.
