700 style safety question

Maybe I'm a wierdo or not normal, but for some reason I carry my hunting rifle slung on my left side. No matter how much I try, it kicks the GIANT safety knob off safe on rem style trigger assemblies... Normally on western hunts, I would just carry the rifle without a round in the chamber, but I hunt sitka Black Tail every year on Baranof Island in SE AK. It just so happens that Baranof seems to be a breeding ground for rather large Brown Bears. The Rifle I use is a Nosler Mountain Carbon in 33 Nosler, but the Rem clone action's safety drives me crazy! Is there something you can do to make that safety stiffer, or lock somehow?? I was thinking maybe the arm could be bent slightly towards the stock, and the stock carved to fit the arm when in safe, so that you would have to push the arm towards the action and them move it forward to disengage the safety?? I love the rifle, but am seriously thinking maybe a Browning with the tang safety, but then I would have to move to a .338 wm or a 30 Nosler??

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated...

It’s a rem700 trigger right?
My old bixnandy triggers had a detent where you had to push the safety out to the side and then forward over the bump. It was actually sort of difficult so I hammered that detent pin out of them all.
My most recent one didn’t have it to start with. Maybe finding an old one to replace the timney would do the trick?

Maybe some electrical tape? I just wouldn’t want it too had to turn off with momma grizz coming at you.

Rem style, its a Timney trigger, smooth as silk, so is the safety! thought about the tape, but like you said, it didn't seem like a good idea... Plus it rains constantly, so not sure the tape would really hold anyway.

I have a 3-position safety I bought from PT&G on the only non-Mauser or Win 70 I use for hunting. I prefer the 3-position on my hunting guns because they lock the firing pin back, when you think about how many hours you rely on your safety when hunting a positive lock up of the firing sounds like a good idea to me. I have installed 3 position safeties on the mausers I hunt with then all of my hunting guns have the same functional safety so I can 100% rely on muscle memory in a tight or fast developing situation. I see you have a clone so the 3-position safety assembly from PT&G may not work out for you.

The last time I took my Rem 700 hunting it went off when I closed the bolt, it is a 375 Ruger so it was quite a surprise when it went off. I was in my tree stand fully situated when I pulled up the rifle put three rounds in the magazine and closed the bolt.

that's a scary story! your right the PT&G wont work, the Nosler bolt is not screwed on like a Rem. I agree with the bolt safety as well, but I have actually had some of the same issue with Mauser style safeties as well, like with Kimber's or Rugers, carrying those left sided can sometimes move those safety to the fire position as well! Tang styles are the best bet for me for how I carry on my left side, as well the Sako style safety seems to work better, its almost the same as the Rem style but the switch is not a big giant knob, and doesn't catch on clothing as easily??
