Ok I am trying to swap out my 700 trigger with an old style one. The problem is I can't figure out where this tiny spring goes. As best as I can figure it has something to do with the safety but I'm not sure.

Which spring?
There is one under the sear, another for the bolt stop/release.

I'll take a picture but I believe I found where it went but now I have a new problem. When I disengage the safety the gun fires automatically. Any ideas..

Too little sear engagement. Start reading a bunch or take it to a competent smith.

Is that the only possible thing, because I bought it off of a guy on here and he says it's brand new.

Yes, you need that spring. When you lift the sear you will see a hole for that spring to fit into, put it in.

I found the hole and have the spring in there but it still fires automatically. Do you think I need to adjust the sear screw?

With the trigger installed look through the hole on the side of trigger housing to see how much engagement there is, if any. Take the bolt out and press down on the sear while looking through the hole. do this with the safety off as it will hold the sear up.

I got it figured out. I had the sears mixed up between the x-mark and the old school trigger.
