Been having mixed results with 75gr berger vld in my NM upper a RRA 1/8 twist 23 wylde chamber. Running RL15 and Varget. Was wondering if anyone has a recipe for single load length. I'm thinking they are justtoo long for mag length. And also what length for single loading.
Thanks

Re: 75 gr Berger VLD Target 223 single load length

The 75/80 VLD bullets for .223 are not designed for mag length.
The are designed for single load, long distance, slow fire, like the 600yd portion of a NM course of fire. They typically do best seated 0.010 to 0.015" into the lands. The COAL will be ~ 2.40", way longer than 2.260" to fit the AR magazine. On the other hand, they may (or may not) shoot as well jumped. When jumping, Berger suggests big jumps, like .030 to .040" intervals from the lands to start. You may want to look that up on Berger's website. A 75 or 80 will do well with 24-25 of either RL15 or Varget with a suitable primer. If you want to shoot mag length, then try SMK or Nosler 69/77, Hornady 68/75HPBT, Lapua 77, Berger 73/77HPBT. These bullets are designed to shoot maglength in a NM AR.

Thanks for the info. I was surprised when I requested info from berger for the 75 VLD they sent back info t mag length actually a little under mag length. The ogive was well below the case mouth. I shot a few and they shot ok...not great.
Ill load up a few at 2.4 OAL for single feed with RL15 and varget and see what we get.
