7mm-08 barrel length advice

I've got a 7mm-08 build going to the smith in the next few days,my question is what barrel length?I would like to get 2750-2800 fps with a 162 a-max.Fyi, I have a 29" bartlein 1-9 twist 5r barrel so I guess I could go 28" or shorter.I would prefer 23"-25" but if that's not going to get me the velocity I want than obviously I will go longer,any advice is appreciated ,thanks.

I don't think you would have any trouble at all getting your stated velocities from a 24" tube. Maybe even 22" with the right load.

22-25" will get you in the ball park.

When I tested the 162AMAX in my 708 last year the best load with 2000MR was 41grs(around 2650) from my 24" tube, XBR8208 will give you slightly more speed from a 24" tube, not sure how accurate that powder would be though, if it were me Id go 28".

You must be running it pretty hot, Hodgdon get 2600 and change with 45grs in a 24".

In the last few years Hodgdon lowered their H4350/162 AMAX max load from 48.0 to whatever it is today. I run 48 grns in my rifle. No issues in thousands of rounds.

What I do know is that a 162amax will usually go ~2750-2800 from a ~24" bbl with ~45.5-46.0gr H4350.
