i tried the search function with no results. I came into a deal with a low round count 7mm-08 barrel on it and figured I would buy components and run it hard. Thanks

I was just thinking about this the other day. Depending on your barrel length you can push a 162 ELD-M to 2700 FPS. That is as fast as a lot of guys are pushing their 6.5 Creedmoor and you will have a G1 BC of 0.67. You will have excellent ballistics and even better barrel life. The one thing you sacrifice is greater recoil. Recoil won't make you miss, but it could make it harder to spot a miss. I would think a top shooter could win matches with a 7mm-08.

You will come close with the above info but probably still not beat the Creedmoor Ballistics. It will be close enough to keep you competitive though so don't worry about beating it ballistically but get a good load worked up with the ELD and practice.

Maybe the speed of the 150 eld x would mKe the extra bc of the 162 a wash.

I ran a 7-08 as a comp gun for a while and really liked it. It has some advantage for targets past 700 yds with the bigger bullets making more visible hits or misses. Also better barrel life.
Personally I couldn't get the 162s to be consistently accurate, so I ran 175 smk.
If I was going to try it again I would run the berger 140 vld. The bc is only .5 but they should run a good bit faster than a 6.5 140 and recoil would be much less than 162 or 175.

That said, there is a reason that the top shooters tent to run 6mm, the recoil. 6mm with a 105 is far less hold sensitive and much easier to stay on target and spot your own impacts.

If you can afford them, try the Flat Line 151s, They will not have the recoil of the 175 gr., and have a BC that thumps anything short of a Berger 180 Hybrid. They are roughly the length of a 180, so if you are going to be feeding them from a .308 magazine, it may not work.

If you call Warner and talk to Dan he might be able to tell you what the seating depth would be from a 7/08.
