Archives should show some recent info on just that.
I just got a 9.25" twist 24" 700 sps varmint and have supplies on order. 162's in that order for sure.
Many have posted that's fast enough and I am going with it.
Can't wait to see 2700 with that bullet. [fingers crossed].

A 1/9 will probably be to slow for 162's
I was told you need 1/8 minimum to get the 162's to fly well.

A 1-9" will work well with that bullet. It should work with some of the heavier bullets too but if you want to shoot the 180's at all I would get a 1-8.5" just to be perfectly sure that they will stabilize. A 1-8.5" will work with the bullet you mentioned just as well as the 1-9"
I would go 1-8.5" if I were you, just to keep the options open.

I have a TRG 22 in 7mm08 with a 1-9 twist barrel, I have no problems shooting the 162grn Amaxes.
Check out the reloading section of the forum, at the top of the page is a section you can get into that will show you reloading data, you will find what you are looking for.

I shoot my factory Tikka 595 in 7-08 with 1/9.5 in our monthly LR tactical bolt rifle matches. All the way to 1000 yards, using both the Hornady 162 AMAX and 162 BTHP. Not a problem at all.

7MM08 with 1 in 9 will handle the 162 or 168 very well. I have a 1 in 9 that stabilizes the 180 Berger VLD when stuffed in a 7 WSM case.
The 7MM08 may just be my favorite round. Good luck with the build.

According to the JBM stability chart a 1-9.5" twist will fully stabilize a 162 Amax starting at about 5 degrees Fahrenheit. Unless you plan on shooting in very cold weather or think you may use a longer bullet a 1-9.5" twist would work fine. Savage 7mm08 rifles come with a 1-9.5" twist.
Just to be on the safe side you can get a 1-9" twist. A 1-9" twist will fully stabilize a 162 Amax at temperatures below -40 degees Fahrenheit lol.
The only way you would need a twist faster than 1-9" is if you were going to shoot the Berger 180gr Hybrid and especially the Berger 175gr XLD in sub freezing temperatures. Even the 175gr XLD (which is the hardest 7mm to stabilize I know of) will fully stabilize with a 1-9" twist as long as it's above freezing.
My barrel is a 1-9" twist and if I had it to do over again I might get a 1-9.5" twist since I'm just shooting 162 Amaxes and it just doesn't get that cold where I live. Because it gets colder where you live a 1-9" twist would probably be the best choice. That way you would be able to shoot any bullet you wanted to if you got the urge to do so in the future.

Something to note, Berger bullets show a 1-9 twist for the 175,& 180 VLD as well as the 180 grain BTHP and Hybrid. The 168 VLD in 1-10's.
Many posters here have been posting good results over the years with 162 A-max in remington's 1-9.25 FWIW.

Looking at the math a 1-9" is more than enough for the 162s in most any condition. You can go to 1.5" length bullet comfortably and the 162 AMAX is only 1.420".

I've used the Amax for awhile now. My current 8.5 twist over stabilizes the bullet and it will only shoot good inside of 600 yards. I've seen better long range results out of 9 and 9.5. however according to the JBM stability calculator and the new Miller formula of only measureing the copper and not the platic tip, that changes the OAL of the bullet to only 1.300. So at this point I have a 162 Amax specific experiment barrel on order of 10.7. Hmmm only testing will tell if it works. If you want something thet would go Amax or 168 berger i'd say 9.5-10

Im using a 9 twist 26" rock for my 7-08. I just got it back last night and will be testing the 162 over varget Sunday.
