7mm action wanting to build a 300wm

A buddy of mine has a 7mm mag that he is looking to unload. I don't need a 7mm, could I use this action as a base for a 300wm build? Or do I need to find a 300 action?

That will work for a 300WM build.

Assuming that you are referring to a 7mm Rem Mag action the 7RM and 300 WM use the same action and boltface. All you need is a different barrel BUT read up on the 7mm bullets and muzzle velocities of the 7RM before you switch to 300WM. The 7RM will probably do everything you are wanting a 300WM for.

+1 I have a .300wm and I still want a 7mm even though they will both do the same tasks for me.

Criterion ? Remington Barrels | you can have both (on the same action and stock) for the price of a barrel vice, barrel nut wrench and the correct headspace gauges. I have a Savage set up in a McM A-5 with CDi DBM and several different caliber barrels, one rifle and multiple calibers.

You COULD do that.... but it would make to much sense and save to much money in the process.I think I'll buy them separately still but thank you for the cool read.
