I got a browning A-bolt 26" barrell as a gift and I am curious what is the best factroy loads to run? I was told 175gr performs better in the gun, but want to get some opinions from you all.

I just had some great luck with Hornady Superformance 162g SST on mule deer this year. One shot at 250 yards right behind the shoulder made the heart/lungs turn to liquid. Animal took one step.
The gun is a Rem 700 with a 26" barrel. I just switched to this load this year and while sighting in it shot .50-.75 inches at 100. The gun is usually a 1" to 1.5" gun. The ammo was listed at 3030 f/s. Showed no pressure signs for me.
Hornady Tech department only suggested that I not shoot an elk directly in the shoulder due to how fast the bullet opens up. They said on large animals a shot right behind the shoulder would be best.

My 14 yr old son shot a ~.40" group yesterday w a Rem 700 stainless sporter using Double Tap 140gr Accubonds, has been my typical experience w their loads.

i shoot 160 grain remington core loks out of that exact gun. it likes the 160's better than the 175's for some reason. the 150's are not bad either but i like a little heaver bullet. i have not tried the superformance 162's yet but i plan on it in the next week or so. the core loks drop 200 # white tail in there tracks time and time again. pick up a box of them and i bet you will get some more. 160 grain premier bonded core loks

I shot some Remington 175gr core loc today and the gun did not like them at all. I'm picking up some 150's and 160's to see how they perform, thanks all...

I have always had great luck with Winchester Supreme 150gr Combined technology stuff. I would look for it with a 160gr accubond.

I prefer the Federal Premium, 175 grain Nosler Partition.
Have used in 26" 1-9 twist on M700Rem, and 24" 1-9 twist on M77Ruger.
Seems to be a good hunting load.
