I was offered an older Sendero today (looks to have a pretty low round count) in 7mm Rem Mag. I don't have alot of experience with this cal other than a little hunting. So what can you all tell me about how this would perform at 1700-2000?
Been looking at the 180gr VLD's and with the high BC they should be good.

Re: 7mm Rem Mag

7RM is a good cartridge. The only thing I don't like about it and any other "belted magnum" is after repeated firings a bulge forms right above the belt. Larry Willis makes a die to fix the problem. It's $90 and a extra step in the reloading process.

I'm not sure what twist rate a Sendero has but you will need at least a 9 twist to reliably stabilize the 180 grain bullets. You might be able to get away with the 175 SMK??? 162-168 grainers will be moving a long faster and will do well in the wind. They are up in the .6 -.62 BC area.

I shot my 7RM at 1 mile before with 176 grain Cautericios. It did well. As good as my 30-375R with Berger 230's that day.

I don't have a problem rebarreling the rifle to get the needed twist for the 180's, but will the 7mm Rem Mag do 1700 good, or would I be better off going to another cartridge?
