7mmRM or 300WM or 338 Lapua ????

Re: 7mmRM or 300WM or 338 Lapua ????

I say go 7mm, unless you can regularly shoot beyond 1000 yards; Then get 338LM.

I've been considering the .284, 7mm SAUM and 7-300 WSM instead of the 338LM for the next caliber for my DTA SRS b/c I don't have the ability to shoot far enough to make the 338 a worthwhile choice.

True. My point is that the capabilities of the 338LM are under utilized at less than 1000 yards, and a 7mm would better match that situation.

However, as I well know, these decisions are rarely rational, and bigger gun = bigger smile.

7RM is a hammer at 1000. 168 gr Berger at 3050 fps. Mine is a Sendero type with a brake. Recoil is comparable to a 243 varmit rifle. My 11 year old daughter shoots it quite well.

Like 260 shooter, I have a 7RM with several hundred rounds thru it (26"HB, no brake, HS tac stock, NF scope). Have been using the 168gr Berger for awhile, prior to that 168gr Sierras.
