Is a 8.5 twist barrel on a .260 and 6.5 x 47 Lapua fast enough to stabilize the heaviest, highest B.C. bullets in these calibers. Or does a person need a 8 twist?

I went with an 8 twist on my 260 just to be sure.

I had a 6.5x55 made and wanted to go with 1:8. However, got talked into 1:8.5 twist rate. I haven't picked it up yet, hopefully on Friday I will get it. Consequently, when I did the DOJ paper work I was shown a sample target and it was .09-something. When I get the target I will post it. BTW it was only a 3 round group. Also, it was Norma 130gr HPBT that was used. I plan on using 142 gr when I get it.

1-8 or 1-8.5 will work equally well, 130's to 142's no problem.

So, if you were going to order a barrel for a 6.5 Creedmoor (I plan to order one very soon) which would you choose. Flip a coin?

Thanks,

Joe

I'm putting a 8 twist Bartlein on my 260, but I think my next tube will be 8.5, I think the 8.5 should give a cunt hair more speed.

Re: 8.5 twist barrel on a .260/6.5 x 47 Lapua

I have an 8 twist on my 6.5 Creedmoor and it works very well. If you have the choice why not go with the 8? No reason not to.

Re: 8.5 twist barrel on a .260/6.5 x 47 Lapua

I went 8.5 twist, and it works great. A 1:9 will work, but is right on the edge with the 140 VLD's and 142 SMK. I don't think .5" of twist will make much difference, but I want the slowest possible twist and still work well at long range.

Yes, I am looking at it from the same point of view as you 427. Thanks guys. Appreciate the responses.

Either will work. Like Rob said, 1-8
