The heaviest Ive loaded in 223 are 77s but I have a new bolt gun with a 7 twist 26" Bartlein. Not sure on the chamber, bought it used but jam is out there. Just past the MDT's 2.55 coal.
Looking to get a feel for powder charges with this bullet (80gr ELD). I am seating the bullet long so the beggining of the boat tail is right at the neck/shoulder junction should allow for a little bit more powder correct?
I have N140, IMR4895, Varget, Tac. Looking for some N540.
What are you guys using charge wise for any 80gr bullet in 223?
I am using LC brass and CCI 41s.

Please share any experience you guys have.

I have not loaded 80s, but would imagine case capacity is a thing.

I thought it might interest you that I noticed I can put about 1 grain or even more of N540, compared to N140.

I noticed this making 24.7gr and 25.5gr loads with each. So I use N540 mainly cause it allows me to get the bullets Pmag length. Ofc the 23.9gr with N140 is magic, but kinda slow magic.

24.7:
540 2.26
140 2.27

25.5:
140 2.276
540 2.265
