I have a G19 and G17. What are you guys running in these? I heard some writer state that he used some "+P+" ammo, but I cannot recall what it was. According to him, he was getting near .357mag velocities with 124g bullets.

+P+ is usually really flashy.
Velocity doesn't always mean the bullet performs any better. Take a look at some of DocGKR's write-ups on defensive round selection here:

I carry 147gr HST now. I carried 124gr Gold Dot for a long time too, and would have no problem going back to it.

I carry Hydrashock at work and whatever the hell I load in my magazine at home...If I'm going to shoot someone, I'll be shooting them all the way to the floor, so I could give a rat's ass about the latest zen hollowpoint.

Probably Mas Ayoob writing about the CorBons. Their tagline for that ammo was "turn your 9mm into a 357" if I remember correctly. Peter Pi's outfit used (from what I read) either duplex loadings or special poders to achieve very high velocities with surprisingly low muzzle flash. In addition to smoking fps, accuracy with CorBon ammo was usually among the best in most firearm tests or ammo shootouts.
I carry Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +Ps in my Sig 226 and my stepdad carries the same in his Grock. They are very accurate and perform great in tissue (several coyotes, rockchucks, prairie poodles, and a goat or two would agree if they weren't dirt-napping). According to testing, they also do well on tissue <span style="font-style: italic">after</span> passing through intervening materials like auto glass, heavy clothing, and sheet metal. Very popular with law enforcement agencies nationwide with good reason.

I generally carry 124 gr +P Speer Gold Dots. I've chrono'd them using several handguns; from my P226 they averaged 1,251 FPS (similar with my G19). As Noah said, they're very accurate and perform well overall.

Hornady critical defense for shooting bipeds. I've heard nothing but good things about Gold Dots. I just haven't fed them through my G17.
100rd boxes of Wally world winchesters for shooting paper and steel. The shells tend to shoot right over your head.

It's possible it's someone talking about LE Federal HydraShok in 124gr. +P+ but I've never actually laid eyes on any.
But if I had to guess, the ammo in question was....

It was pretty good stuff actually. Used a bit of it. Nowadays though, the Hornady Critical Defense looks like a winner but I haven't used it yet. My concern would be that it doesn't have groups that have one flier like the Federal EFMJ used to.
And I admit to have a bias AGAINST the 147gr. loads but because of the reputation it developed in the early years. I know it's probably been fixed, but I seem to be developing some strong opinions as I get older. lol

File the tip off the 9mm Winchester Nato (+P load at 1300fps, 124 gr.) to expose the lead core. Now you have a high velocity soft point, crude but v e r y effective...just saying...

I've chrono'd some 9mm Nato ammo. I've heard some of it is pretty fast, but the stuff I tried was around 1,170 fps from a Sig P228. Also, a modern JHP would certainly expand more reliably than a "modified" FMJ.

I have chronoed mine at 1266 with 5.3" barrel. Simply put, this ammo is inconsistent.
It was just an experiment...the bullet deforms well rather than expand, which is much better than just simply zipping through.

Whatever you carry, make sure you practice with it and carry a bonded bullet.
Other than that, bullet selection is like holster selection, there are a lot of right answers and a lot of wrong answers.
