Two quick questions for the Pro's here. The first concerns Pac-Nor barrels. All I have used in the past is Schilen barrels. While surfing I was drawn to Pac-Nor's site, and they have some features that are desirable to me. Being a fan of Savage actions, I like that the Pac-Nor barrels can be ordered with the Savage type barrel nut for Remington actions (which I will be using on this project). So how is the quality of Pac-Nor barrels, and is anyone aware of any other barrel companies offering this option?

Second: I have read in the past of Remington bolts being converted to a floating bolt head. This would also be desireable for my new project. With alot of surfing I have not been able to find anyone who offers this service. Are any of you aware of anyone who is offering this ?

Thanks All

I am not a purist, well not totally anyways, but if you want a floating l head and a barrel nut, why not just build a savage to begin with?

The reason is that I am building a .338 Edge. As Savage Ultra-Mag actions are quite rare and Remington Ultra-Mag actions are quite easy to find I decided to us a Remington. Yes a Savage Long action can be used to build an Ultra-Mag based cartridge, but that leaves other problems such as magazine length (I need this to be a repeater) and feed rail angles. By using a Remington action I can bypass both of these problems. I also was able to score an HS Precision stock from a Rem long action for very little and have a line on a Rem Ultra-Mag action for a very good price. If I had been able to find a Savage Ultra-Mag action believe me that is what I would be building.

If I have to use a fixed bolt head than so be it. But I can assure you that I will NEVER build anything other than a Savage in a short action again after the ease with which my recent .260 build went together and the accuracy is unbelieviable.
