So last night I was cleaning my 6mm creed. The jag punched thru the patch midway down my barrel which caused it to get stuck. Like it wouldn’t budge. So I stuck a seconding cleaning rod (Tipton carbon rod with brass tip) down the muzzle end of the barrel with nothing attached to the end of it so it would sit flush with the stuck jag. I had to tap the end of the rod with a hammer to loosen up the stuck one and was finally able to pull it out. But I noticed the brass tip of the rod I used to tap out the stuck one was deformed from the force of being banged against the jag. I’m really hoping it didn’t do any damage to the rifling.

I feel a bit embarrassed but I’ve never had this happen before and was using what I have always used, correct jag, bore guide, correct sized patches. It just jammed it GOOD when the jag busted thru the patch. I don’t have a bore scope but shined a light down the bore afterwards and it looked clean and shiny. What are the odds the brass tip that got deformed damaged the bore?

Been making barrels since 1994. I've done much worse, a lot. don't reckon any damage, though you might have some extra fouling from the jag

My 17 hmr was the worst so far. I thought I was going to have to remove the barrel and start over. Soaked patch and barrel for two days and used vise grip truck mentioned above finally came out. I was sweating it. I just smoothed it back out with a couple of 500 rounds and it is fine

Thanks

OK you probably know this, but just in case... when you load the patch, load it about half way between the center and the corner of the patch ( from the edge if using a round patch)... should push through much more easily. I apologize if this is old news to everyone.

When in doubt, wrap it round. I try to recommend the wrap around parker hale and other types, especially for smaller bores. Or the pain the arse loops.
