A warrior is responsible for his own weapons just as a craftsman is responsible for his own tools. It is simply not possible to get good results without the necessary respect for one's tools or one's weapons.
Time must be devoted to training, practicing, and maintaining one's tools or weapons, however gifted a man may be. Each aspect of the craft must be examined over and over again without regard for time and energy spent, whether phsyically or mentally.
The "spirit of the thing" is what will guide a man to his own greatness.
There is no Way that can be approached and petitioned for immediate gratification.
The Universe does not work that way. How could it and at the same time expect any perfection to devlop?

That was written 365 years ago by Miyamoto Musashi, greatest Samurai warrior to have mastered the sword.

- Book of Five Rings

Amazing how every piece of that book still applies today.

It goes on explaining how one should be familiar with your enemies weapons as well - STILL TRUE..

"Amazing how every piece of that book still applies today."

Yes indeed.
I've read through it countless times, and shall continue to do so, & each time felt I've gained something.

Recommended reading for the Japanese business student.

Know the smallest things and the biggest things, the shallowest things and the deepest things. As if it were a straight road mapped out on the ground ... These things cannot be explained in detail. From one thing, know ten thousand things. When you attain the Way of strategy there will not be one thing you cannot see. You must study hard.
