My buddies dad past away awhile back and he was an avid reloader, my buddie cons me into loading his ammo now. So he gave me a bunch of 45-70 brass and bullets for which I have a Marlin 1895 lever gun. In the batch of bullets I received 300 gr. j.h.p. in .457 and also in .458, along with 405 gr. .458. My Hornady manual calls for .458. Can I use the .457 dia. also?

Who manufactured the .457 300gr. bullets?

Mike
The box is MIDWAY USA repackaged reloading components, With a factory bar code sticker that says "Remington - 45-70 govt. 300 gr. jhp" so it seems to me that they are meant for use in a 45-70, it's just that my reloading book states bullet dia. at .458. It would seem to me that a smaller dia. bullet would not raise pressures but I am no rocket scientist.
