This pattern looks like it has some promise. Been trying to find info on it over the last couple of months. Finally got some decent images. It's supposed to be up for eval for potential use in Afghanistan.

Any pics of it on a flat surface? I can't even focus on it to make out the pattern!

Nevermind. Now how the heck do you paint it! It looks like a freakin' Van Gogh painting!

Re: A-TACS Camo - New pic

it looks better than the acu's with the tan thrown on it. I like it but I like multicam better. I also think the army must have way to much money to spend since the marines did it right and made 2 uniforms and not one for every area they are in.

Re: A-TACS Camo - New pic

kyshooter338,

That's the new Remington/Bushmaster ACR formally known as the MagPul Masada. Originally designed by MagPul then the rights for manufacturing were sold to Remington/Bushmaster. From what I've heard Remington will make the Mil/LE version and Bushmaster will produce the civilian model. It's been about two years since they're were supposed to be released I believe. Last I heard was they're shooting for first quarter of 2010 release.

Patiently waiting

i am def a huge fan, ME LIKEY, but i believe a desert version of multicam would have HUGE potential as well. i have photoshop'd a few samples but cant find them

a few different blotches of light tan base coats, and about 5-6 different colors of spotty sponge work

Re: A-TACS Camo - New pic

stop it (in my most femmy voice)

i figured those few years in art school had to finally pay off

you hard core lead slinging mofos could use a little culture

back to thread

obviously this will have to be a custom paint mix sponge job

a. can you apply duracoat with sponge?
b. will need slow drying paint to mix "color palette" so krylon is out. any way to decelerate drying?
c.acrylics wont last so what media (paint) can we use
d. any metal paints come in non aerosol?

im thinking laying down fogged base coat in multi colors
then finishing multi layer with small sponge from palette

maybe we should start a new thread....

Re: A-TACS Camo - New pic

I'm thinking Brownells Alumahyde II and a sponge will do this nicely. I've used it before, not with a sponge but as a spray. Takes atleast 30 min in the sun (in my experience) to become dry to the touch and is very durable when allowed to cure properly. I want to try this by spraying it into a small bowl then applying with a sponge. Thinking I could use their O.D. green, Earth Brown, Coyote, and Desert Tan as themselves as well as mix them to get the more then ten different tones shown in that pattern.

Fixed it for you in red. there is a ton of info on Duracoat and Cerakote around here, I suggest you look into it. All of that is pretty easily done. Im in the process of having a rifle sent off for that A-TACS camo done in duracoat.

Re: A-TACS Camo - New pic

I just discovered this stuff and did a search to see if there was already a thread on it. Sure enough...

I gotta say I'm impressed. It looks to give multicam a run for it's money. Though I'll hold final judgement untill I see non-marketing photos.

What I think works best about this camo is that it works like those blurry text novelty shirts. Tricking the eye into trying to focus past them.

I like it! It seems to blend well. Coloring is like that
Natural gear hunting camo. Which works very well.

Boy howdy!
Now if we can just get the DOD to stop selling our combat uniforms to local nationals when we're overseas. Still ticks me off that our guys couldn't get DCU's, but the USAF managed to sell 2 entire pallets of DCU's to the locals. Pretty sad when you can walk into a local shop and pick up new uniforms when your COC says they can't get them for you.

Re: A-TACS Camo - New pic

there were little a-tacs teasers set up throughout shot show. it looked pretty good. even a little darker than originally thought. i'll have to pick up a uniform set and field test before i can establish a true opinion.

although, the danners were f'n pointless. they were just desert tan boots with a small side panel with the a-tacs pattern. anyone that would actually spend the extra money for the a-tacs version of those boots is a straight-up mall ninja/ fanboy!

wait a second!? you just said the ARMY has TOO much money to spend? like the marine corps doesn't? and like the military gets less funds than any thing else in this country. I didn't really want to attack you on that but that sounds pretty stupid. and the Marine Corps didn't do much right with the TWO different kinds of camo because neither of those work very well. and as mentioned at the top. this is the new pattern for AFGANISTAN! not EVERYWHERE. I just can't wrap my head around the thought of someone saying that the ARMY has to much money to spend to increase the chances of a soldiers survival.

Re: A-TACS Camo - New pic

I think this pattern has some potential.

We've seen Khaki, OD, Pacific Marine cammo, tiger stripe, woodland, desert choc. chip, desert, Marpat woodland, Marpat desert, ACU, Multi-cam and now...

Shithole-On-The-Face-Of-The-Planet pattern.

Since this appears to be our theater of choice for awhile, this feces pattern should be very effective.

Re: A-TACS Camo - New pic

I think to spray this pattern on a rifle would be pretty complex. thats a lot of blending and blotching to get that fuzzy look. Ive talked it over with my paint technician
wink.gif
and he said it was a detailed job.
