AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

Re: AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

They're basically the same design. Are you going to run a QD suppressor on this rifle? If so save yourself the hassle and get the AAC Blackout mount, it's essentially a vortex style flashider with a quick attach detach for your suppressor. If this is in a caliber that you want a muzzle brake for then get the QD muzzle brake mount and do without the "ping" associated with the vortex "tuning fork" style flash suppressor.

Re: AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

No, no suppressor they are not legal in my state. No brake either, I have never seemed to need it in .308. Just want the best Flash hider I can put on this rifle. Did not know about the ping, any other recommendations?

Re: AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

Odd question as you can only use AAC mounts to fit their suppressors. On a precision rig, I would rather go with a brake instead of a flash hider. Unless you are going to be running night vision, I just don't see the need of a flash hider for the 762SD. And I believe AAC is going away from the 30 cal flash hider setup. A good reason to go with a brake is that it acts as a blast baffle, saving the suppressor from erosion. If you do not want to run a brake, go with the Cyclone as it's a thread on and doesn't require any special mounts.

Re: AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

The flash of shooting at night is not that blinding. It's really not needed. How many bolt guns you see around here that have one? If you want to reduce the "loss of night vision" or "signature", leave the suppressor on.

Re: AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

He said that suppressors aren't legal in his state. Which we have no idea what state he is in because he hasn't filled out his profile.

So you really just want it for the "cool" factor? (which is perfectly fine, btw)

If so, then I think the AAC blackout looks cooler than the vortex.

But since we're on the subject of cool... how about a surefire FH like this:

Re: AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

No cool factor at all. Does not take much to fade your night vision, rhodopsin cycle. Lighting a cigarette, tracer fire or even looking at a cell phone can do it.

Back on topic any body know which works best? Thanks!

Re: AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

I found that the AAC BLACKOUT works slightly better than the Vortex - probably no more than about 10% better. But three prongs make each prong wider, and I feel that is more drop resistant.

Re: AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

Thanks. When I called Smith about the vortex they wanted to know the length of the threads on the barrel. Not the size and pitch but the length. Is that relevant to the installation of a ACC also?

Re: AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

I just saw the original question. I would choose a 51 tooth BLACKOUT flash suppressor with 5/8-24 as that is what will mate the latest 762-SD from AAC. It would not matter to me if I could not have a silencer at this moment as it is still the 'correct' muzzle device for this rifle.

I have a Remington 700 sps aac on order. When installing this brake on my rifle, will it need to be timed? Does it come with shims to time it?

Re: AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

I used a Vortex flash hider on a project a while back. My only real complaint was that the barrel rang like a tuning fork after every shot. I ended up swapping it out for a break. Next time I would try out an ACC product.

my 2 cents.

I beg to differ.

A 26" barreled Remington 700 firing FGMM puts out quite a bit of flash at night. It's is noticeable in the scope and will be noticeable to anything else out at night.

Another added advantage of a flash hider is that it will protect your crown and not piss off the shooters next to you.

Re: AAC or Vortex Flash Suppressor?

I don't always post videos, but when I do... I post Vortex night fire videos.

I thought this thread could use a bit of video evidence. I made the video last year to see how well the Vortex works. I never had a problem with the tuning fork effect, never noticed it and can't hear it in the video. YMMV.
I just wish I had had wrench with me so I could test with/without the muzzle device.
