I am looking at getting an AAC and would like to use on an AR-10 and a couple of bolt guns. Anyone have any advice on which one would be best to use? Looking at the 762-SDN-6. This says that I can use on a 5.56 thru 7.62. QD is not important to me. Thanks for the help.

Re: AAC Question

If you don't want or think you need QD then, look at the Cyclone. I have an older 18 tooth 7.62SD and have never had an issue with the QD lock system backing off. Running a tread on can on an AR platform will require you to check for tightness about every 10 rounds. Don't skip this step.

I also have a Shark JAWS with no QD attachment and find that threading the can on/off is a PITA in between stations. Personal preference but, I like the QD system much better than fine single point threads. Nothing against the Shark but I wish it were QD as well.

Re: AAC Question

For a semi auto gun, I would really recommend getting the QD system. The 762SD is a great can, but the new SD-N6 is supposed to be better on shorter semi auto guns. They are not available yet.

You are able to shoot 556 through the 762 can, just be sure everything is concentric

ETA: If you are anywhere near west Texas (Midland/Odessa) I'd be more than happy to let you shoot a few

+1 to Kane. The "N" model is a little quieter on shorter barrels. If you are running 16" or longer barrels I'd opt for the full-size 762-SD personally. But either will be fine.

I very much agree with the recommendation for a fast-attach type system that locks up securely when running auto-loading rifles. The suppressors are less likely to shoot loose if you are running the gun at a higher cycle rate. There are a lot of variables (such as how tight the threads are cut on the host to suppressor, vibration due to action cycling, etc.) but in my experience most "off the shelf" semi-autos will work a thread mount suppressor loose at some point.

That said, I like thread-mounts better on bolt-action rifles. LOL.

Re: AAC Question

I am not stuck on AAC but today I had a guy from work tell me that he is trying to put together an order on AAC... I have nothing against Surefire, YHM, Gemtech... all seem to be good.

I am open to suggestions! Just want to buy only one.... do not think that I will use it enough to have multiple ones. But I hear that changes once you buy the first one. I figure that it will mostly be on a bolt gun but would like to have the option to put it on a semi.

Thanks to everyone for their advice and time. I have shot a few on bolt guns but nothing on semi's, the only thing that I know for sure is that I want one!

Re: AAC Question

I went threw the same question about a month ago. I get people saying that the surefire was alot louder then the competition. I am mainly buying to use on a bolt gun, but I will PROBABLY get a AR10 before the can comes in.

From what I was finding the N-6 was "As quite" upto 20" the stayed very close to 7.62SD after 20". I almost went with the Cyclone, but after shooting my M4-2K and seeing how hot it gets I didn't want to have to grab the Cyclone to tighten it up after every mag or two.

I ended up pre-ordering a N-6

Re: AAC Question

You won't have to tighten down the Cyclone or a thread on suppressor every couple of mags. At least I don't and all the people I shoot with that have various thread on suppressors. We usually go through anywhere from 100-200 rounds each every weekend.

And I wouldn't say the SF is a lot louder. It surely has a different tone and duration then that of the other suppressors.

A video that I took a couple of weeks ago. And as always, you can't draw conclusions to how good or bad a suppressor sounds by a video on the interwebs.
