AAC-SD or 5r Milspec????

Or i guess 1:10 twist or 1:11.25?

I have an AAC-SD with a KDF brake fitted but I have been reading up on the 5r Milspec and it has intrigued me.

I have the opportunity to sell my AAC-SD and a Milspec has become available. I will only be out of pocket a couple of hundred bucks...

What would you do?

Keep the AAC-SD and buy the Milspec....can't go wrong that way.

That would be ideal but funds do not allow at the moment. I just got engaged on the weekend too so this might be my only build for a while....

It is one or the other for the short term.

Keep your AAC, shoot the barrel out, re-barrel with something better than what both offer. I was in your position, bought the 5R, but still plan on changing the barrel out after a few thousand rounds...maybe even going with the trends and putting a 260 or 243 on it.

I'm in the same boat, picked up a 308 SPS tactical on impulse, then a 300 WM in 5r, only have 5 rounds through each as no scopes mounted yet, just checking the feed.

Accuracy aside, the 5r is a beautiful gun compared to the sps, really like the SS barrel, the gun just feels better. Now thinking if selling the sps and getting a 5r in 308...or do I get the 5r and keep the sps????

If your AAC shoots, then keep it. Use the extra money on ammo! I just can't see getting rid of the AAC unless you are just bent on it. I own both, and would not give up my AAC.

That 1:10 should stabilize 175's and heavier out to 1000. Guess the question is if you are going to suppress your rifle. If so, then keep the 1:10.

I like your thinking.


I'm very happy with the accuracy of my AAC-SD. 1/2" at 100yds. I couldn't imagine the Milspec doing much better if at all.

I have a 5R and a custom .260 on the way. I'm trying to get the okay to get an SPS AAC-SD as we speak. I'm kinda backwards on the order most do it in, but I like the 20" guns Remington offers. They seem to do well.

I sold my aac to buy a 20" 5r. Both were fine in the accuracy dept. I prefer the look of the 5r along with how much smoother the action moves. That being said I have lost interest in precision bolt guns and wish I would have saved the extra cash I spent and kept the aac. Only thing is the sps metal sucks and rust too damn quick if used in the field.
