AAC-SD... with or without break? thoughts please.

I will be purchasing a remington 700 AAC-SD soon. There are two models. The regular AAC-SD and the one with the AAC Breakout from the factory. Obviously the one with the break is a little extra dough, about 50 bucks from where im getting it.

I will not be running a can with this set up, question is is the break really worth it? obviously the break would cost more to buy it seperate but with a 308 not being a high recoil roung is it really worth the extra dough? let me know what you think...

For a $50 difference, you can take the Brakeout off and sell it for a little more. That'll give forum members a chance to buy it a little cheaper in my opinion. Win/win situation if you ask me.

The.308 is not a high recoil round but you will start to fell it after 100 rounds. Even while running a brake.

The brake is also helpful for watching hits / staying on target. It is not all about felt recoil.

I have the one without the brake. If I were to buy again I would probably get one with a brake just to have the option of using it. True, it doesn't kick uncontrolablely but if it helps staying on target it could be useful. I have found in certain situations if I rush and I'm not set up perfectly, recoil can throw off my sight picture enough to make spoting hits difficult. If the break helps alleviate this it sure couldn't hurt. Plus like the others mentioned, if you don't like it or need it you can get rid of it pretty quickly in the classifieds.

Isn't it the flash hider (tuning fork) not the break? If that's the case, and you're not using the can, do without...

No its the breakout for sure. I'm not worried about felt recoil being its a 308. Guess I should be asking cons here. I can spot rounds and have recoil management without a break.

I should be asking what's the noise lik.e for the shooter with this break? I've shot some breaks where it takes away some of the joy of shooting cause every round you feel the wave of pressure and its stupid loud even with ear pro. And shooting prone in dusty areas how much worse is the dirt being kicked up?

The Brakeout is not a very effective brake compared to a lot of other products. If it was installed by the same folks who install the brakes and flash suppressors on their factory Blackout AR uppers/rifles, removing it might be a challenge too. We've seen lots of factory Remington/AAC rifles (the AAC Micro Blackout 700s) and AR uppers with mounts that are way over torqued and soaked in locktite and Rocksett.

If you aren't running a suppressor, I'd vote to get the standard model.

I would get the AAC-SD, not the brakeout, and keep a thread protector on there unless you want to add a brake.

I personally have started putting brakes on a lot of my guns .308 and up. Not because I can't shoot them without it, but because I enjoy shooting more with the brake. It allows me to shoot more in a day, and stay on target easier. (I can stay on target without brake, as I have taught myself to do, but its just so much easier with).

If you decide you want a brake on it, I would look at the APA LB.

I have a 5R with the double chamber brake, and several AR with single chamber brake. Also my shooting partner bought a Remmy 308, without anything. It's a big difference. I really like the double chamber brake. He even considered getting his threaded so he could put one on.

It makes a huge difference after about 15 to 20 rounds. GET THE BRAKE. You will kick yourself in the ass when you shoot your friends when he gets the brake.
I also have one on my 300Wm, it's fabulous. Get the brake.

The whole AAC -brake Brakeout -tuning fork - cluster fuck..is so confusing, I always refer to them as single or double chamber brakes. The single chamber has the three forks, double only has two chambers.

Did I mention , get the brake?

Personally, I would get it...as stated above, you could always remove it and sell if you don't care for it. I know Remington first released the "AAC" model with the "Blackout" flash hider, then subsequently offered it with the "Brakeout" flash hider/brake combo.

I would also go for a break.

I bought a 700 aac-sd that came with a blackout installed. Shooting it was ok.

I then replaced the blackout with a break. Shooting became more enjoyable.

I then added a suppressor the mix (sdn-6) and shooting became awesome.

3 words. Get. The. Break. I bought my aac-sd with the breakout and I am about to upgrade to a JP break. Selling the breakout will help me fund the Jp, it might not get me too far but at least I used it and had one on the rifle for the first 300 shots. It does make a difference to have it on there IMO.

Not sure about the AAC break, but I have a Surefire 762RESASS on mine. I wouldnt be able to see hits/splash without it. Its a great thing being able to see this at 800y-1000y and being able to adjust.
