OK,My question is: So his bullet is stolen and is already fired {has rifling grooves embedded}. movie said they paper patched the bullet , so that you can shoot it out of other rifle and blame someone else !!Wouldn't this have to be a custom made barrel with custom bore dia. to handle the original bullet and paper patch ???? I would think about 75/1000th over bore or more ???

I don't plan on doing this , just thinking out loud

+1 If you read the book, you will know exactly how it is done. It is described in painstaking detail.

Re: ? about SHOOTER movie

ok... first off, it's a movie, when have you ever seen Hollywood really try to be accurate.

now having said that I thought about it too....lol... the rifle that Gunny was using was an Cheytac M200 in .408... they showed the assasination shot fired fom a M2 in .50bmg.

so, it was fired from an over bore an essentially "paper patching" is just a paper discarding sabot, so theoretically, it's possible.

the bullets were supposedly hand turned solids... finding one that would go back through a .50 bore isn't even that big a stretch, but it being in good enough condition to fly 1800+ yds and be anywhere close to that accurate is pure Hollywood

Re: ? about SHOOTER movie

The thing that got me, if they picked the bullet up from the one where he shot a can of soup (at least that's what was said in the movie at the end in the chamber scene). That specific bullet would be deformed and unuseable.....but it is Hollywood. Gotta love it!!!

Re: ? about SHOOTER movie

Like said above, read the book. To answer your other question I myself would assume a customized barrel would be required to fire a round like that in a consistant manor. But they only had one round to fire that was already mangled from that reinforced soup can lol. I read the book a look time ago but I do remember it being painfully specific about certain principles in ballistics (more so that hollywood).

Re: ? about SHOOTER movie

the sad thing is the bullet would not really be that deformed from just hitting an aluminum can of soup. the hard for me to fathom is HOW IN THE HELL WOULD THEY FIND THE BULLET? that bullet would have gone through the can an keep right on going, for many of hundreds of meters, like they could have found it..Got to love hollywierd.

Re: ? about SHOOTER movie

His dog was pissed about having his ears blown out so the dog showed the bad guys where the bullet was...

Then they shot the dog. Crazy huh?
