I have been thinking about buying another 308 and I am torn between the Accuracy International AE and the Sako TRG 22. If anyone has any experience with these rifles I would like your input. I have searched the forums and read everything I can find so I would appreciate any info on accuracy avaliabilty of accessories and so on.

You need to consider how the rifle will be used. Will it be carried up and down mountians or be a range queen or be used for Law Enforcement or for competition etc.

You need to consider how the rifle feels. I dont really like the feel of the pistol grip on my AI stock it's like it was made for a really small hand. The grip feel of the SAKO would me more like the feel of a Mc Millan A5

Other choices would be GAPrecision and TAC OPS or a Remmington R5 Mil Spec.

If a guy had to carry the rifle a lot and weight was an issue even a Tikka might be a consideration they are guaranteed sub moa guns.

I was in your boat about 2 months ago when I signed up here. I liked the TRG-22 well, because I'm a big collecter of Finnish made rifles (Military) but also I have about 900 rounds through a AI from a course I went through a couple years ago. I eventually just throw my hands in the air and got the AI. I have still yet to shot it so I'm not much help at all.

Re: Accuracy International AE or Sako TRG 22?

Thanks for the info guys. I will mainly be using the rifle for target shooting out to no more than 1000 yards. I will possibly hunt with the rifle occasionaly but I am not too concerned about the weight after lugging my 50 around all over the place. I read the article by Zak Smith and had even considered purchasing one of the TRG 42's instead of the TRG 22. I havent been able to handle either the AE or the TRG in my area and doubt I will be able too. I have noticed that accessories seem to be priced better for the AE.

Not to go for one or the other, but you can circumvent cost for both with third party accessories. For the 22, AICS mags will fit, and JBW has just come out with 10 rounders for the AICS that are only 50% longer than the 5 round AI mag. You can get an adapter to mount a harris bipod on either, and there are a couple companies...Near manufacturing, Warne, and US Optics that make bases for the TRG-22. Just some food for thought.

The new AIAE has a 5 or 10 round options. I would pick AI, but that's because of my additction to AI rifles. LOL

Re: Accuracy International AE or Sako TRG 22?

They're both great rifles.

If you had asked the question last year I would have said TRG-22 but with the AE MKII I'd call it a draw.

The mags for the AE will be a bit less expensive and more common but the TRG-22 is a fielded military rifle and that counts for a lot in my book.

I'd say the best choice is to get one of the AWs on the exchange right now and sleep well knowing you own the very best

There's actually lots of great options on the market right now (even beyond these two). It's a good time to be getting into precision rifles, except for the part about making up your mind!

I'll be in VA Beach for the next 4-6 weeks. If you ever head out this way kick me a PM and I'll let you handle my 22.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I might just have to write them down on piece of paper and draw from a hat. I know whichever one I pick I really dont have too much to worry about just wanted to see what the general consensus was around here.
