Deep in the woods
Hi, I was wondering what gun finish AI uses on their rifles. On my AX it appears to be two different finishes. The top part of the receiver/action has a traditional finish and the bottom part that has the magazine well appears to be painted. I ask this because the bottom painted part on mine is flaking in areas around the creases where the top meets the bottom. I would like to refinish the rifle because the bottom metal is showing through. I have used birchwood Casey's touch up pen but it seems to be temporary solution. I would like to know who puts on the best gun finish for this type of rifle. I would only like the bottom part done since the top is still perfect. There is also a couple of marks on the gun on the right had side where my clumsy gun smith put on the gun, which will have to be filed down. I have looked into Cera-kote, Robar, and melonite finishes. Which of these are preferred and can the bottom half of the receiver even be treated with melonite? I want a durable corrosion resistant finish which I don't mind paying for. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
